Who’s afraid of the Newsweek

The issue is not if Newsweek got it wrong. The question is whether we have got it right. Is Newsweek the cause of the comprehensively evidenced and ever so present in the public domain images and accounts of condemnable conducts of the gentlemen of the US military? In an attempt to divert the issue, one [...]

US and Iraq: Storm over an Underwear

Who said the following?
“I don’t think a photo inspires murders. I think they (insurgents) are inspired by an ideology that is so barbaric and backwards that it’s hard for many in the western world to comprehend how they think.”

You got it right! The American President seriously believes that the “Western world” is generous and progressive.
Well, [...]

Iraq: What Went Wrong?

Finally, a well-composed, incisively critiqued and timely presentation (albeit very short) of the people history of the Iraq.
Iraqi nationalists and leftist radicals each reviled the monarchy established by Britain in the 1920s: the first group because of its political and military dependence on Britain, the second because of the abject poverty of Iraq’s workers that [...]

Guantanamo Bay: What’s really going on?

An Afghan who spent three years at the Guantanamo Bay detention centre said that interrogators frequently desecrated the Koran, which prompted a hunger strike and a US apology.
Abdul Rahim, 40, said during an interview on AVT Khyber television, a Pashtu-language private channel, that abuse of the Muslim holy book was routine.

Cell Phones and Media Researches

How do we conduct researches? And what researches become news?
The answer is simple: depends on who funds them.
It would be nothing as revealing, if not for the fact that some researches do fiddle with human lives grotesquely. One such is a news today about how mobile phone users in rural areas have more risks!
A report [...]

A fine criticism

Rolling Stone still rocks!
The National Affairs section of its May 5th issue lays out Bush’s “most radical plan yet”. Osha Davidson says
“The White House is trying to achieve what Ronald Reagan only dreamed of: revoking basic rules protecting workers, consumers and the environment”

Telecom Sell-out in India

There is no need for surprises here. Manmohan Singh was one of the architects of the liberal-ized economic structure (read: sell-out to global imperialists, than freedom from state capitalists). And that Chidambaram will ensure a raise of the foreign direct investment (FDI) limit in the telecom sector to 74 per cent from the current ceiling [...]

Iraqis seek Internal Aggressors

In the bloodiest attack in the region since the war, 50 more people have been killed in Iraqi Kurd attack. Attacks have been so frequent and reported gleefully by the media that it appears quite normalized a phenomenon. Alright, we know that at least four newspapers - The Daily News, The Daily News on Sunday, The Tribune and The Weekly Times - have decided to shut down late 2003 for several reasons, the most notably under the Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
The argument is that the law is draconic, and what not. [...]
